SELECT COMMITTEES

Select Committees

Parliamentary Select Committees play a key role in influencing government policy. Each week the committees will call witnesses from a range of organisations to give evidence. The representatives of those organisations will then be grilled by MPs for up to 90 minutes with cameras broadcasting every word.

A good evidence session in front of a Select Committee will convey an important message back to MPs and can lead to changes in Government policy. A poor performance will undermine the reputation the organisation appearing before it. That is why anyone called to represent their organisation in front of a Select Committee should take great care to carefully prepare for it.

In 2019 I became a Minister and spent the next 5 years making regular appearances in front of Select Committees. I knew how to prepare because for 10 years prior to becoming a Minister I had been the Chairman of a Parliamentary Select Committee.

If your organisation is appearing before a Select Committee and you would like some training from someone with years of relevant experience then please contact me.
